This is a great question!! What I do with various age groups is look at the speaking situations of each client...i.e for a younger child...it might be reading in front of class or answering questions or telling a story...speaking situations need to be specific to the child and not to the age group. it is also helpful to talk to parents or teachers of this age child. I typically talk to the student about "talking"..i.e. different types of messages and situations. I like to use a treatment approach called Message Therapy which was developed by William Yovatich. The concept is one of delivering various types of messages..i.e. fast, slow, loud, slow, funny...bumpy, etc. The young child understand that stuttering is a "type" of talking. Messages can be practiced in a number of ways.Good luck...:)
