This article really resonates with me, both because I've made the same analogy and because I'm learning to play golf (slowly and with difficulty). One thing you didn't mention is the idea of "the yips", where a golfer experiences a sudden movement disorder when trying to make a shot under pressure (e.g., putting), and knowledge that one may get the yips makes putting all the more stressful. To me, that's almost an exact analogue of stuttering. As I mention in my own article in this issue, this class of problems is a new area of research for psychology: see Daniel Wegner's survey article "How to Think, Say, or Do Precisely the Worst Thing for Any Occasion" (Science, 2009).
