Elise, I enjoyed your article. The comparisons of golf and stuttering are many as you so well illustrated. I like to use the contrast of enjoying the game or striving for the best score when counseling individuals relative to fluency shaping or stuttering modification approaches to therapy. The best course of action is to enjoy the game AND shoot the best score possible. The trick is learning to combine both approaches. The same holds true in many facets of life, especially with raising children. We want them to be successful with all their endeavors which require work and dedication while at the same time enjoying what they do. Challenges like this are what makes parenting and stuttering therapy so interesting--and rewarding. I shall refer my future clients to this article. Again, nice job.
