HI, Thank you for your response to the article. Where to begin? I think a lot depends on the client. My experience has been that if we are talking about a young child...who is not at all bothered by his "bumpy speech." then I tend to focus on the parents...and not the child. I provide them with lots of "bilbiotherapy" and encourage them learn all they can about stuttering. I tend to work on how the parents/grandparents/ teachers, etc. can intervene through the back door, to help the child gain better fluency. Encouraging good speech modeling....slower rate, no overlapping, turn taking....etc. With older kids or adults, who usually have some negative emotions associated with their stuttering, plus avoidance behaviors, poor self image, fear, etc...the cognitive aspects of stuttering are often primary. It is all very individualized therapy. elise
