Most of the time, people barely even look up! In New York City, people are used to trying to ignore people asking for money so I think the knee-jerk reaction is to look down. People rarely ask questions, but sometimes clap or shout "good for you" or the like. Those completing it always report that the anticipation is tense but that once they start, it feels liberating. While no one has ever reported a "bad experience," those who don't complete the challenge unfortunately sometimes feel bad that they didn't feel they could do it while the others did.
