Hi Elise, Good point! Helping a client come up with his/her own comprehensive definition like the one proposed in the paper is a really fun and exciting process. I know you asked somewhat of a rhetorical question at the beginning of your post, but I like to ask the stutterer what he/she thinks stuttering is first in therapy, and use responses as a springboard to develop that "deeper" understanding.
