Counseling is within our scope of practice and if SLPs understand stuttering they should be able to do most of the necessary counseling to help people who stutter. In some cases, of course, the issues may be more serious and require another professional. However, competent SLPs should be able to deal with both surface and under the surface aspects of the disorder.
