First of all, thank you for sharing your story of progress as a person who stutters and as a person becoming comfortable and proud of their accomplishments. As a graduate student in speech-language pathology in the United States, we do learn a lot of different techniques that may or may not help each individual to either make their stuttering less frequent, less severe, or to become more comfortable with their existing stuttering. My question to you is what should speech therapists do to find what technique will work for their client? Did you know right away which techniques would not help you and which ones would? The motivation and belief of progress is necessary in the person who stutters to make progress, so should we be more open to ask clients "do you think this will work for you?", "does this method sound pointless?" As the therapist in the situation, I would want to know immediately if my client do longer thought that what we were doing made a difference, and I'm sure the client would too, as to not waste time. How did you know what would work?
