Thank you for this article. I am a graduate student taking my first fluency course. I am interested in children who stutter who have been exposed in-utero to opiates and other toxic substances, resulting in neurological disturbances. If, because of these disturbances, a child is unaware that he is unintelligible, partially due to the severity of his stuttering, how would you approach treatment in a way that would not negatively impact his self-esteem?
