Yes, there seem to be subgroups. For more information you might want to see recent research of Dr. Theys and Dr. De Nil. Most neurogenic stuttering clients are aware of their disfluency. A lot of them are concerned or annoyed about it, some even show anxiety symptoms. You would definitely want to treat neurogenic stuttering clients with or without other accompanying speech problems, starting with those aspects which impact the client`s everyday life the most. If it is the anxiety to talk or participate in everyday life situations you could start with psycho-social methods. If the stuttering symptoms are the most severe aspects you might want to start with specific stuttering therapy.
