Interesting question. I think students, when it is explained, at first I think students approach the assignment cognitively - what are the steps, what do I need to do to learn to do this. When they start to actually try to assignment, I see a real emotional component emerge - frustration, embarrassment, maybe even a bit of anger. And when they get up to show their progress in front of the class, I often saw the emotional component have an impact of performance.
