Mike, I think anxiety is VERY MUCH related to stuttering. And not just anxiety about stuttering. General communication apprehension is important as is generalized anxiety as you describe. It sounds as if you have "tools" you currently use to decrease your stuttering. When and individual is anxious, they are spending time in the limbic system as opposed to the cortex, so... it is much harder to use strategies you have learned, hence your speech mechanism doesn't respond as one would like it too. You might enjoy the book "The Emotional Brain" by Joseph Ledoux.
