Mary- Successful transfer of fluency outside of the therapy situation has been a life long issue for me.In this particular situation. I think the fact that the therapy situation is real discussions about real issues, with real SLP students sitting in and participating in the therapy helps. Most of my therapy situations have been situations where we fabricated fluency in a lab type setting, and focused primarily on techniques to avoid stuttering (easy onset etc.) I think the fact that this therapist doesn't have me to where I feel I am " on the clock" helps a great deal. I feel he is genuinely invested in me. He has helped to empower me to see that I have it within me to speak fluently, and speak well. How I am making the transfer? I am still working on that. I think part of it is knowing I have my therapist there on my shoulder as a friend who truly believes in me is very powerful. I'll have to get back to you as I continue my journey, as I haven't yet discovered exactly how and why I am able to make the transfer so successfully now, when I haven't been as successful in the past.
