Maggie- It is truly difficult to describe because I have never had therapy like it... ever. I would have to say what makes it special, and successful is the therapist's investment in me as a person. As an educator, I know that it takes a great deal more energy to become personally invested in the students, or clients you serve, but it is so much more fulfilling. In therapy, we talk, we don't necessarily talk about stuttering or fluency but within the context of real conversation and getting to know each other and the student clinicians, this therapist introduces me to strategies, imagery, and techniques, and has me self monitor and self reflect. He facilitates me becoming my own clinician in a way. It is not clinical at all however. He has helped me experience success and build on a fouundation of success, where there once was only failure. I can't tell you much more than that, because i am still trying to figure out what it is that he and I do together that makes it work. I am hoping to get a copy of his book one of these days so I can read his work. Textbooks are so darn expensive:):):)
