This was a great and inspiring video. The message about changing perspectives is one that I find to be extremely important. One man mentioned that stuttering was “like a black cloud that has followed me everywhere” however, he is now able to be more honest and open. I believe that society and its pressures are a reason for these negative emotions that are associated with stuttering. If society as a whole would change their perspectives on stuttering, than individuals with stutter would have reduced anxiety and an increased belief that they can be successful. It is amazing that everyone in this video has been able to reach this point in their lives; however, it would be amazing if this point of accomplishment and self confidence could be reached at an earlier point. I recently attended a stuttering support group where individuals who stutter ranged across generations. I think everyone in the group was pleased to hear that children in today’s schools appear to be more tolerant than they used to be. The older adults reflected on their experiences of being teased and tormented for having a stutter; however, the younger children in the group said that their peers were supportive and patient.
