Great piece, Jim! As someone in journalism and public relations myself, I know what you went through. For me, the worst thing was cold-calling. I was always fine with calling up people I know, but it was the notion of calling strangers that terrified me. But you're absolutely right. Being in the field has desensitized me a lot since. And I definitely agree with your tips. I've made practice calls, especially right before escalating to the "bigger" ones and I've wrote scripts of what I hope to get across.
