Your article is spot on. To your list of 5 I would add anti-intellectualism. I've noticed over the years that many of these sites have displayed a disregard for those who pursued the training necessary to treat stuttering. Often this was paired with an undefined “common sense,” e.g., "Researchers say there's no cure, but do you stutter when you're alone? No. Common sense should tell you that you can be fluent!" It must be a powerful message. For a desperate parent choosing between a message like this and 1 from a reputable SLP (no cure, no guarantee, gradual change, puting your son in uncomfortable situations, etc.), it's probably no contest.
