This was a very well-written summary of what we might know so far about sleep and stuttering. Clinically, I have worked with several preschoolers who stutter, where the final part of treating what I can their "residual stuttering," (3-5%SS, which might be very lower than baseline but still problematic) was challenging. These were kids who after a year or more of almost-successful treatment, were still stuttering. Asking questions about the child's sleep hygiene and making recommendations regarding the number of hours per night that you cite here, and even referrals to pediatricians, was what made the difference for at least two of these kids. I am curious about the "Turning on genes related to stuttering" aspect of your research on sleep, and I will read some of the references that you provided. Again, thank you!
