Hi Breanna - Thanks for your post. Oh yes, there is much, much more to be said. We posted this brief summary - about 2000 words - taken from a book that's going to be more than 100 pages when it's published! (In fact, our first draft submitted to Judy was 4000 words, and even that was drastically cut ;-). There are many things that SLPs can do to help children -- the attitude of the speaker, addressed so briefly in this article, is just a small part of a bigger picture. Other things include: helping to educate other kids in the class about stuttering (classroom presentations, referenced earlier in the thread), helping parents learn to provide support for their child in a way that actually minimizes bullying rather than putting more pressure on the child, helping school teachers and administrators understand the big picture so they can be proactive helpers in the process, and, or course, direct activities to help the child learn appropriate responses to bullying. So, this is just the barest beginning - the good news, of course, is that we have lots of options. In our opinion, SLPs should be aware of all of these options so they can provide the most effective treatment for their students who stutter. Thanks again for reading our paper. Scott
