I am currently a SLP graduate student and I yet to be given the opportunity to work with a child who stutters. This paper provides me with a nice outline of a potential discussion I may need to have with a future client who stutters about bullying. I believe that one of the most important aspects to stuttering treatment is education. I really like how this paper addressed education of self (“getting the facts”) and others (“giving the facts”). I am assuming that many children who stutter have not been educated about their stuttering and the effects of stuttering on themselves and others. This paper provides a nice brief overview of the important facts for children who stutter – why they stutter, why children may bully them, etc. It also provides wonderful examples of how to reduce bullying by explaining their stuttering to others. This is a wonderful clinical tool for SLPs to have and refer to when discussing bullying and stuttering with children.
