In a perfect world, bullying would not exist. However, some children can be cruel and tease each other about anything, but in regards to stuttering, particularly their speech. When this happens, the SLP can help in these types of situations. As a future SLP, I know that my role will not stop in the therapy room. As an individual who stutters, you are considered the expert, and it is important to self advertise. Sometimes, children do not know how to act around those who stutter, which may cause them to act in inappropriate ways. In my class on stuttering, we had a guest panel come in. They discussed situations in which they felt extremely awkward based on the listener's reaction. Some examples were saying something like, "take your time." If you self advertise and make the listener more comfortable, this will help them react better.
