Keiko: We agree that teachers play a pivotal role in supporting children who stutter. For teachers whoay not seem to "get it," ongoing dialogue and collaboration is necessary. I have often encouraged my students to journal thoughts and feelings regarding bullying. Sometimes, they have turned these thoughts into writing exercises for classroom assignments. This gives the teacher an opportunity to "hear" the impact on the child in new and meaningful ways. Of course, this is just one suggestion. What may be most important is giving the child the tools to deal with bullying, even if it means "going around" someone who is not helpful.
