Do you know any Spanish? As it is a language with more people in this country who are native speakers, maybe that would be an easier language to try it with. Taking a class sounds like a great idea! I do wonder how much pressure it would be to speak in class in front of other students, and if it would put more or less pressure on you than the example you gave of the conversation with the taxi driver.
