Yes, it's so interesting how fluency becomes easier once you "stop caring about fluency." The trick having that relaxed mindset when you DO care! Athletes and performers have the same problem: the more you want to excel, the less relaxed you are and the harder it is. (I enjoyed "The New Toughness Training for Sports" and its relevance to stuttering -- books like "The Inner Game of Golf" are also helpful, as I think you pointed out.) An "zen" mindset of acceptance and relaxed awareness helps so much. // I also like your point about slowing down -- really helps to get a real feel for the rhythm of speech, and how stuttering works. For me it helped when I got to the point that I could be "my own therapist" and pay close enough attention to what was going on that I knew which techniques work best.
