Brittney, Hi! Nice to meet you (well virtually). Where are you from? What are you passions in life? If you were a vegetable what would you be and why? (this question is the MOST IMPORTANT of them all! hee hee). Thank you for your kind words. There have been many struggles in my journey to become an SLP. I could go on and on (but I won’t). I have had teachers and peers telling me I'll never make it or succeed in this profession and I’ve experienced clients and client's families telling me I can't see them because of my stuttering (the latter was when I was a graduate student, it broke my heart to tears). Like any journey, we have the opportunity to choose how we react to the bumps, pot holes, and delays we experience. For those people who didn't believe in me I have to appreciate them now. They were speaking from an angle of ignorance. When I say ignorance, I just mean they were not well informed because they didn't really know me. Which is okay. Opinions are just that, opinions. Nothing more or less. Now, the above being said, I still have challenges, and I hope I always will. Differences, challenges, and difficulty can inspire us to learn, grow, and evolve as individuals. Evolution, in a personal sense, can be an important path to figuring out the person we are, and meant to be. These are just my thoughts and philosophies based on my experiences and the type of counseling I perform. Thank you so much for writing, Brittany. With compassion and kindness, Scott
