Thanks for the kind feedback, Grant! For most people, stuttering most definitely is more than a mere issue of speech. However, just how much more is involved will vary from person to person. Your experience perfectly illustrates that fact. As I understand it, you chose not to actively use techniques because they really weren’t worth the extra effort for you. And as you say, for others that may not be the case. I wanted to explore the reasons why those people—the ones who do want to use skills to speak fluently but aren’t able to do so as they’d like—may find themselves returning to old behaviors despite their best efforts to change.
