Or more than likely, the stuttering therapy itself was deficient. The real thing involves a highly structured, labour-intensive, time-intensive, expertise-intensive regimen of identification, in vivo systematic desensitization, modification and stabilization — the things Van Riper was talking about. And that involves unlearning, learning, relearning, genuine and thorough in vivo desensitization, healing and strengthening.
