Hi Kelsey. You might take a look at my previous responses to Lori, Elise, and Kellie where I touched on your question. Making a list of “pros of being fluent” and “cons of being fluent” is an activity I didn’t mention but can be helpful with gaining insight. One thing to keep in mind, though—many clients will not need to, and indeed won’t WANT to live as fluent speakers when they leave therapy. Many PWS are quite happy to live with manageable levels of stuttering in their speech. And so long as they’re saying what they want to say, living fulfilling lives, accepting themselves as they are, etc., then they’re unlikely to go back to where they were before treatment.
