Hi Rebekah, thanks for your comments! I addressed some of your questions in my response to Kellie above. One thing to keep in mind is that not all clients will struggle with giving up their old stuttering self and speaking more fluently. Many clients welcome their newfound control and fluent speech without much inner turmoil or conflict. I would wager that, for those people, stuttering probably was never a core component of their identity, or at least wasn’t preeminent. So change for them will not be as fraught with ambivalence or uneasiness as it may be for someone whose self-concept is more strongly tied to being a stutterer.
