Not sure if I completely agree with Dr. Sheehan on that one, at least based on several people I’ve known. There are some people who are able to speak fluently AND lose their fear of stuttering, effectively suppressing (possibly eliminating?) the involuntary disruptions that characterize the disorder. They are definitely not the norm, but they do exist. I agree with you that for most persistent stutterers (including myself, probably), that won’t be possible; they will need to learn how to better manage those disruptions.
