What a great article... being a person who does not stutter, but who one day hopes to work with people who stutter, it provided me with a perspective that I had yet to consider. Do you have specific advice on how and when to address the ramifications of "leaving stuttering behind"? Is it too soon to confront the client with the weight of the decision within the first treatments, or should you wait until fluency has been achieved? Or maybe sometime in between the two. Also- how would you approach this topic to a child, whose identity might not be as affected by the stuttering? Would you be weary to emphasize it too much if the child appears to experience no associated emotional reactions from the stuttering?
