Hello Dianna, You had posted the comment “I didn't understand why someone would not want to change their stuttering to be a fluent speaker." I understand you now have new knowledge after reading the article, but yet your statement really caught my attention because I too had the same thoughts. In Charles Van Riper’s M.I.D.V.A.S treatment approach-the Motivation stage (M) lists many steps to jump start motivation within individuals for treatment: however, there is an idea that some people are resistant to change because in some situations people who stutter receive a "pay-off." Perhaps this could have been a small factor reflected in the statistics given by the author for the people who relapse?
