This is such an interesting topic! Prior to reading this article, I only thought about stuttering relapse in terms of difficulty with continuing the motor movement techniques. The piece about self-identity and holding onto what is comfortable and familiar was a new and interesting thought for me. Do you find that clients are surprised when they relapse due to self-identity concerns? For a client who relapses, what is the general next step? Will he typically return to therapy, remedy the situation on his own, or continue through life with disfluency?
