Excellent piece of work Ryan, I have in the past suffered relapse after relapse using the costal breathing therapy taught to me 11 years ago. I have used self therapy for the past year, using the work of Charles Van Riper. Changing the speech patterns but worrying about the next word I may stutter on and then blaming myself for not using the technique I had been taught properly. Self doubt sets in and relapse is just around the corner. Every time I would speak I would worry about stuttering in advance of the spoken work. It took me so long to think about stuttering but without the negative thoughts that go hand in hand with stuttering. Do you think changing ones thought pattern concerning stuttering is the biggest challenge faced in therapy. It seemed to me the negative thoughts ie; fear, guilt, hate and shame are for a short period of time when with a therapist or a group of stutterers is quite easy to achieve. However back into the real word with real everyday issues without support the negative thoughts and self doubt quickly find a way back into the stutterers thought patterns. Having lived with negative thoughts and negative reactions for many many years, self belief and staying positive do you believe overcoming the stuttering thoughts is where the focus should be and not just working on fluency techniques. Thanks Richard
