Re: your question, please see my responses to Elise and Rebekah above. Just to clarify: not every PWS will be strongly attached to their stuttering identity. In fact, many clients view stuttering as merely one facet of many that defines them. Of course I’m only guessing here, but I would bet that the crisis/ambivalence one feels after learning to speak fluently would probably be proportional to the centrality of stuttering in one’s self-concept.
