Great questions, Kaitlyn. I wish I had some answers for you, but frankly, I just don’t think we know enough about identity issues with this disorder. Constructing an identity around any single thing, whether it’s a disorder or not, is probably not going to have the best consequences long term. People tend to be more functional and have greater quality of life when they’re able to integrate disabilities/disorders into their composite self, rather than exaggerating the importance of them and allowing them to become the lens through which they see the world.
