Ross – Thank you so much for reading the piece and for your incredibly kind words. I’ll do my best to answer your questions as concisely as I can. When I was conducting the interviews, I tried to give every person the space to tell their stories, without interrupting too much. However, I did share a lot of my own experiences. Partly to put others at ease, partly because their stories touched me so deeply and partly because they asked me about my life. So much of what people told me mirrored my own journey with stuttering. I found that in learning about each person, I learnt an incredible amount about myself. I also saw that each person had their own experience with stuttering that was completely unique and separate from mine. In spending a year meeting other stutterers, I felt as if I was finding my tribe, perhaps even finding myself in some ways. It was deeply comforting but also thrilling and eye-opening – it was the year that changed my life.
