Ken talks about desensitization which is one of those elements that is necessarily time intensive, labour intensive and knowledge intensive — and profoundly lacking in what passes for stuttering therapy these days. So in that regard, what if someone had an all-consuming passion to treat stuttering in adults, but wanted to really emphasize desensitization. What if that person chose to get advanced degrees in clinical psychology with a speciality in desensitization. And what if, along the way, that person wanted to take fluency disorders courses pertaining to stuttering in your departments. What would you do with such a creature, professors? Would you summarily turn him or her away OR would you say, "For purposes of inter-departmental co-operation and multidisciplinary interaction, welcome." Or, would you dodge the question by responding: "What you suggest is not necessary because we teach desensitization and our SLP students can always study desensitization on their own." I'm curious. — Ed Feuer edfeuer@mts.net
