I would add to Nan's comment that pp. 143-145 in particular in the Handbook of Stuttering (2008) summarizes some of the brain imaging studies, more applicable to outcomes of adults who stutter than younger clients at this point in time, of pre- and post-intensive treatment - "plasticity and change following treatment.
