You always hear people saying stuttering has nothing to do with intelligence. However, I have encountered numerous mentally retarded people who stutter. Especially I have noticed a high percentage of stutterers amongst people with Down Syndrome. Is there a correlation after all? I want to point out that I am a stuttering person myself and have a fairly close relative with Down Syndrome who also stutters. This connection has always made me a bit uneasy whenever I'm in her presence and there are other people around. I'm not looking to offend anyone with this post, I'm just curious as to how things are.
