Hello and thanks for posting. I can't say that I feel that "most" of my students have been victims of their stuttering. I do feel that the potential is there, depending upon how they view stuttering in general. For the most part, as humans, we have our own "adaptation to life," and some of that is not within the purview of SLPs. Having said that, we can and should be involved in helping children through the process of change. To your question, most of the children I have worked with demonstrate an amazing capacity for change. Working through the "victim, survivor, thrivor" is a dynamic shift and we can all go in and out of those states, no matter what challenges we face. I have always been thankful to be a small part of watching the process unfold. Thanks for participating and good luck in your future in the profession!
