Thanks for your openness to new ideas when reading my essay! The current “speech therapy world” it seems may not be moving any closer to understanding stuttering. I have talked to many SLP students and they have commented on their confusion with the competing theories of stuttering. I did not start this unconventional approach to speech therapy to discover something new about stuttering. I was just looking for a quick fix for my speech! What I found when I looked at my speech fears with EMDR, was a hidden world below the surface overpowering my speech! You might find interesting, “The Experience of People Who Stutter” by Jim McClure. This new research paper posted to the ISAD 2009 Conference looks at what people who stutter (PWS) believe has helped improve their speech. What I see in this research is when PWS improve how they feel about their speech they have their greatest successes. http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad12/papers/mcclure12.html
