I just read about the International Stuttering Convention. I know Dr. Shapiro had mentioned the conference during our therapy sessions. Having stuttered all my life, and finally gaining control over it after beginning work with Dr. Shapiro, it is so exciting to see that research on stuttering and treatment is a world-wide effort. Even from an educated layperson's perspective, I had no idea that there was collaboration among nations to address stuttering and other challenges that people have with regard to their oral communication. As a person who, for so long identified my self through my stuttering, and one who still considers fluent speaking to be a challenge, though not a struggle, I am ecstatic to see that a world-wide perspective and exposure to stuttering, and other speech challenges did not begin with "The King's Speech" and certainly won't end there.
