Erin, I always tell clients and caregivers "the truth," as you put it. >>> Basing a relationship on deceit professionally is similar to building a personal relationship on a lie. It ultimately will crumble, and you will suffer. On a personal level, you will feel hurt and angry and may make harmful decisions for yourself regarding revenge. On a professional basis, you could be sued "up the wazoo" and, perhaps, lose your license. >>> Level with clients, always. Build a relationship based on integrity and trust. In sum, treat others as you would wish to be treated. >>> You ask what would I tell clients: I would tell the truth as I see it and follow that up with recommendations for their consideration. Best, Ellen-Marie Silverman
