I am a current graduate student in Speech-language pathology and first off, I will like to thank you for this insightful paper. In the past almost two years of graduate school, I have taken various courses, and learned from many professors. Perhaps two of the things that all of them agree on (just like you stated) is the fact that therapy cannot be carried out unless: 1) the individual has a desire to work on their speech (motivation), and 2) that there is a positive relationship between the client and the clinician. If any of these mandates are missing, then there is a high risk for abandonment of therapy by the client. It is not until and individual has the motivation or desire to carry on therapy that perhaps one could observe positive outcomes. I think this aspect of your paper was very true and I will definitely think about these factors as I embark in this journey as a clinician.
