This was great - as close to my own beliefs about stuttering that I've found!! I think it's great that you take the time to explore with your client what they are looking for, what has worked and what has not. Doing this allows for a client to feel empowered in the process, not just at the mercy of a supposed expert who knows more than the client just because he/she studies speech pathology in school. It sounds to me like you place a lot of value on "right relationship" in the therapeutic alliance, which to me (from what I've heard and read) is often missing. Sounds like something I refer to in an ISAD 2009 paper I wrote, which you can look at here. http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad12/papers/mertz122.html It's about things I learned in therapy, and those very insights needed for a person to feel he/she is making progress towards what they are looking for in therapy. Was there a particular reason for writing this now? ~Pam
