I am a graduate student. I worked with a 5-year-old boy last fall who stuttered. He appeared to have no anxiety or other negative feelings related to his stuttering, and stated that he did not. With children such as him who are early in their stuttering progression, would it be beneficial to intervene early to deal with and/or prevent negative feelings (e.g., anxiety) in order to prevent the perpetuating cycle of stuttering and anxiety? Also, how do you see the speech-language pathologist's role in this?
