I found your article very insightful and meaningful. I am currently enrolled in a fluency class as a graduate student in a speech-language pathology program. I have always had a strong interest in psychology and feel that a strong background in it will allow speech therapists to have a greater impact on their clients (which is why I chose to minor in psychology in undergrad). As a future SLP, I was wondering if you could advise me on the best way to approach clients about their anxiety behaviors. Since most clients walk into speech therapy primarily seeking treatment for their stuttering behaviors, how can an effective SLP raise a client’s awareness about his/her own anxiety behaviors as well? What signs may indicate to an SLP that a referral to a psychologist should be made?
