The saying "You never know who you are gonna need" is so true! Your story is very inspiring! No on knows the emotional struggle stutters go through. You are a very strong person to handle and deal with the "rascals" the way you did. Normally when you stand up to bullies, they leave you alone, but those rascals persisted. No one should have to take an alternative route home and the nerve of them to wait for you behind an abondoned house. The teacher should have been aware and had more knowledge about your sepeech impairment. She could have pre-assigned you a paragraph to read since you were going the extra mile to rehearse before class. You eventually found ways to cope with the teasing, but it still made you uncomfortable. It disturbed me that after you enlisted into the Navy, the sailors and marines made fun of you thinking you were unintelligent. If they had done their homework, they would have known research states stutters are very intelligent people. Its good that you were surrounded by positive people such as your parents, wife and kids. They provided the positive support you needed, in addition to being around other military members who shared the same impairment as you. Back to the popular saying "You never know who you are gonna need," you were the bigger person. You could have easily taken Johnny to jail. Your actions of taking him to the hospital indicate you had forgiven him. Taking him to jail was the eaiser task to do. Characteristics of individuals do not change. As you stated, the "rascals" were either in jail, drunks or dead. Constable Trevino gave you an inspiration and you went after it. How ironic Johnny did not remember you after all the horrible gesters he did towards you, but 25 years later Constable Trevino did! In life only your works and good deeds will last as it is evident within your story. I can only imagine the feeling Constable Trevino had and the gratification you had to able to recall Constable Trevino's memory of "I want to do your job & I was going to be doing your job one day." Stuttering with an attitude......how inspiring
