Hi Anthony, Thank you, so much, for sharing your amazing life story. Although we have many similarities, I never experienced bullying. I think this was due to the fact that I was a prominent sportsman/athlete and gained selection for the school teams several years in advance of my contemporaries. So, I guess, my fellow pupils kind of “looked up” to me (as I was also tall). :-) As you know, I also chose a career as a police officer. It was an incredible struggle but, like you, I adopted various strategies in order to cope with the demands that were placed upon me. It’s well documented that I experienced internal discrimination that prevented me from reaching the heights that I had hoped to achieve. Nevertheless, I was proud of my accomplishments. Anthony, I’m so glad that you decided not to seek revenge on the drunken Johnny who had subjected you to bullying many years earlier. Although our past experiences shape the person we are today, I feel it is unhealthy to dwell upon such negative memories and thoughts. History cannot be re-written; we are unable to change what happened - so I elected to move on and focus on the present. I have let go of any animosity that I previously held towards another human being. If we dwell upon such injustices, then we continue to allow those persons to push our emotional buttons. Although I’m now retired, I have many happy memories of my years in law enforcement. Your paper makes it abundantly clear that you are similarly enjoying your role as a police officer. I’m sure that your talks (and deeds) will inspire others to follow in your footsteps. Kindest regards Alan
